About Karen
Getting to know Karen…
Karen’s life is a testimony of 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. She began life in poverty raised by her grandmother in a small town in South Georgia. Added to the poverty was a thick southern accent, blonde hair, and no evidence that God would eventually use her to manage the wealth of the affluent or teach others about money. Although the accent couldn’t be changed and she liked her blonde hair, Karen determined in high school to break the chain of poverty in her family.
Karen graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelors of Science in Finance in 1988. Karen cut her teeth in the financial world by working for one of the top three Banks in America for 13 years. As Vice President in the Private Bank division assisting the affluent with the management of their wealth, Karen discovered there was more to freedom than finances and left the corporate world to start Financial Matters, Inc. in 2001. As an independent advisor, Karen had the freedom to begin pursuing her passion of teaching Biblical principles about money and continues to do so today. You can hear Karen speaking regularly on WAYJ Christian Hit Radio Way-FM 88.7 www.wayfm.com giving individuals the Inspiration to Change their finances and their Life! Karen has spoken at various Parenting and Family Seminars in Southwest Florida. She is also a regular speaker, teacher, and writer for McGregor Baptist Church www.mcgregor.net.
It was through her teaching that she discovered being an effective Investment Manager for her clients did not give her the skills that she needed to help individuals break poor financial habits, overcome debt, and provide them the steps they needed to discover financial freedom. She had a fervent desire to see them live the life of purpose that God has in store for them. Early in 2007, Karen discovered that Life Coaching was the skill needed to further serve her clients in discovering and living their life purpose. Karen is currently a student of Coach University www.coachinc.com and a member of the International Coach Federation www.coachfederation.org. Karen is working towards becoming an Associate Certified Coach.
In 2008 Karen will celebrate 25 years of marriage to her high school sweetheart. They live in Fort Myers, FL with their 12 year old daughter and enjoy horseback riding, golfing, and spending time in the hills of Tennessee.
